Urgent! Already three ST2000DM001 written to outer platter will cause seek_error rate raise crazy

[ Edited ]

I have used three ST2000DM001-9YN164 as one of the member of linux raid5,

they all have same problem when i rebuild the last partition sda7,

the seek_error_rate suddenly raise from 646600 to 34360385772,

the first two ST2000DM001-9YN164 finally tripped by SMART treat me as bad disk and need to replace,

and the 3rd now i notice the same problem,

I stopped the rebuild the raid5 and waiting you all reply.

Hope you all have same model disk and try to write huge data to the outer platter and find out whether have same problem as me.

Below are my partitions config, and the 3rd disk smart status.

Re: Urgent! Already three ST2000DM001 written to outer platter will cause seek_error rate raise craz

I have attempted to make sense of Seagate's counterintuitive SMART attributes at the following URLs:

http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/Seagate_SER_RRER_HEC.html
http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Barracuda-XT-Barracuda-Barracuda/Seagate-s-Seek-Error-Rate-Raw-Read-Err...

The lower 32 bits of the raw 48-bit SER value record the total number of seeks performed by the drive during its lifetime.

The upper 16 bits report the total number of seek errors. When the raw value suddenly increased from 646600 to 34360385772, this was due to a sudden occurrence of 8 seek errors.

Here are your data in hexadecimal format:

646600 decimal = 0x00000009DDC8
34360385772 = 0x00080009e0ec

0x0008 = 8 seek errors, 0x0009e0ec = 647404 seeks

The raw data for your other drive (http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Barracuda-XT-Barracuda-Barracuda/ST2000DM001-SEEK-EROR-RATE-FAILING-and... represent an error rate of about 1 in 1000.

28814941699921 = 0x1a35005d3f51
total errors = 0x1a35 = 6709
total seeks = 0x005d3f51 = 6111057

Is there something unusual about your setup? Is it subject to vibration or power fluctuation, particularly on the +12V supply?

Are your drives mounted horizontally, with label side up, or are they mounted vertically, or in some other way?

Re: Urgent! Already three ST2000DM001 written to outer platter will cause seek_error rate raise craz

Is there something unusual about your setup?

The system have been running for a year with 3 hitachi 2TB drive, recently one of my hitachi drive have bad sector so i replace a new seagate 2TB drive.

Is it subject to vibration or power fluctuation, particularly on the +12V supply?

Are your drives mounted horizontally, with label side up, or are they mounted vertically, or in some other way?

All 3 drives is placed inside a tower case and the drives are mounted on a rubber absorption accessories provided by the tower case, sure they are all install as label up, the power supply is running normal.

Re: Urgent! Already three ST2000DM001 written to outer platter will cause seek_error rate raise craz

 I am also getting insane seek error data and rapidly diminishing seek error value very close to the threshold level (39/30) in less than a month in a sudden (from end of may 2012 to 24 of June 2012).

ckeck my post for details
