Warning Smart Status.. Should I worry?

[ Edited ]

Should I return my hard disk to the store and get replace? This one is pretty darn new. 4days old.

Try another SATA port, or a different SATA data cable.
Try limiting the SATA interface speed to 1.5Mbps.

See page 22 of the manual (page 28 of PDF) for jumper settings.

Everything I guess is fine now. But the warning is still there? Do you think nothing is affected by that error? I'm worrying because most of my important files supposed to be put there.

Data transfers over the SATA cable are error checked. Bad data are retransmitted. I can't see that the integrity of your data would be compromised, but you may or may not experience a performance hit.

Windows sometimes downgrades a drive's performance from UDMA mode to PIO mode if it detects too many CRC errors. You will see a major slowdown if this happens.

Re: Warning Smart Status.. Should I worry?

So what should I do know if it is working fine? If it shows any problem, can I RMA it?

Re: Warning Smart Status.. Should I worry?

Before Seagate will issue an RMA, your drive needs to fail SeaTools.

SeaTools will provide you with a Test Code. In the event that SeaTools passes, you have the option of supplying a Self-Service Test Code:
