What is wrong with my HD?

[ Edited ]
i have no idea what is wrong with my hard drive. i bought it brand new at tigerdirect.com. my computer is self built by the way. when i tried to install windows xp pro on it, something would always get in the way. whether it was freezing up or not being able to copy files. everytime it was something. the farthest i ever got is the screen that says "installation will finish in approximately 38 minutes." i leave it on overnight and the installation process is exactly in the same state as i had left it the night before. but it wasn't frozen though because i could still move the mouse and the bar was moving. at first i thought it was something else like RAM or the motherboard or something else. so to figure out what was wrong, i put in my old IDE hard drive from my old computer as my primary/ boot hard drive with windows xp already installed on it. i had to repair the xp pro on the ide hard drive to adjust to my new hardware. and the old ide hard drive worked perfectly. and the xp recognized my RAM, PSU, CPU, GPU, and even the seagate hd. then i installed all the cd's that came with my hardwares. but everytime i tried to write something on the seagate hd, a message would come up "delayed write failed." and then that partition from the seagate hd would disappear from MY COMPUTER. i would have to restart the computer to get it back. one of your agents gave me a link from microsoft about delayed write failures and i tried some of those things but none of them worked. i still kept getting "delayed write failures" messages whenver i tried to write something on the seagate hd and then afterwards the computer would stop recognizing it. i had to restart the computer to get it recognized. then i installed seatools from this website and ran some tests. but after the tests the computer would stop recognizing it. so i had to shut down. and after a while, restart. to me it seems like the seagate hd is faulty because everything else on my computer seems to work. and when i got to "disk management" to format my seagate HD, it says 931 GB unallocated. shouldn't it read 1000 GB free. i have sent seagate an email but have gotten no response. HELP ME!!!

Re: What is wrong with my HD?

You have a faulty drive. Send it back for a refund and get anything that isn't a 7200.11.

Re: What is wrong with my HD?

You get a refurb of the same model.  You can speaking to customer services and arguing the point, but you'll probably end up with a refurb of an older model.

Re: What is wrong with my HD?

Please run SeaTools long test on the drive first.

Also, please verify your SATA controller drivers are up to date.

Re: What is wrong with my HD?

Contact the manufacturer of the SATA controller/motherboard.
