extract the disk profile data

is there any way to easily extract a disk's profile before it dies so that a repair can be made to a dead logic board by substituting the dead board and uploading the profile so that the disk comes back up?

Re: extract the disk profile data

I don't know of any freeware tools that can do what you want, but Salvation Data's HD Doctor for Seagate is a commercial tool (~US$600) that can do this and more. STR-3000 is another cheaper tool (US$200).

You might like to try the read-only demo version of SeDiv - HDD Seagate Terminal for Windows:
http://sediv2008.narod.ru/Easy1014.rar (software)
http://sediv2008.narod.ru/HelpEn.rar (documentation)

BTW, SeDiv is time limited. You will see a message which translates to "This version is outdated". Try setting your system date back to around April 28, 2009 (date stamp of SeDiv.exe).

Any manuals I can read to look at a roll your own solution?

Re: extract the disk profile data

Thanks, that PDF complements the Fujitsu manual I have on hard disks.

Serial USB adapters are inexpensive on eBay so all I need is my trusty old C++ compiler
