I think what you've done is set a new small partition with genius, if you need data off it this will get it back for you before formatting http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/ you will need another drive to recover to btw.
When you format, delete all partitions and set a new small one of 8mb, Windows does this for you as long as you tell it to.
