i just pulled a malfunctioning st380215a (fw: 3.AAD) out of one of our work systems, and much to my surprise it had theunlabled factory jumper installed (pins 3-4). is there any way to find out what this jumper does, or if it is perhaps related to its failure?

thanks for the effort, but the online guide has no information about the reserved jumpers.

right in the middle of the jumper block? i wouldnt think so... its nestled right between the cable-select and 32gb-limit jumpers. worth a look, i guess.

Well, yes it does - it says which one is reserved. I don't know exactly what it does, actually, but I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the drive's failure.
That said, if the drive is already failed, I don't see how it would hurt anything to remove the jumper and see what happens. Removing it is not going to void the warranty or anything, so don't worry about that.
