Can I flash my Drive now or should I wait?

And, what about the data on it?

Go to the knowlegebase and choose the right article based on your model number and follow the instructions from there. Your data should be there.

I have just finished updating 2 st3500320as drives with the new firmware ISO. So far all is good, both drives are accessible, no data seems to have been lost and windows booted up properly. Performance seems to be the same. So all in all it seems good.

Note: If you controller supports AHCI, its a good idea to disable it in BIOS and enumerate your drives in plain SATA mode before you flash.

Also, if your HDDs are on RAID, its a good idea to disable RAID and enumerate them as standalone SATA drives - before you flash the new firmware.

I have NVIDIA 780i & 790i systems, updated my 2xST3500320AS (they were on RAID-0) in a single go without issues.

I used the MooseDT-SD1A-2D-8-16-32MB.ISO - RAID is now enabled back, and everything looks good.

After bricking my drive with the faulty SD1A, it came back to life with the currently published firmware. And so far it seems to work like a charm. Performance figures are good too imho.

is anyone having bad SMART status after this firmware upgrade?

did you flash with the bad SD1A prior to this ?

was your drive working fine before this update ?

This is what i get after:

It says it's still 'OK'. Seatools tells me the same. The "B8 - Unknown" thing always has been yellow with this drive. The other thing became yellow after flash. It wasn't there with the SD15. I don't know if it was there with the faulty SD1A. It could be that because the plates where inaccessible SMART values have changed.

my st3500320as has the same status.. with SD15

every recent seagate drive has the same "Spin retry count"  on yellow with HD Tune. probably because the Threshold that the SMART returns is too close to the current and worst values

I start to worry less about it. Still i have no faith in the drive, it has to win me over, over time. :smileyhappy: Hope it keeps going strong.
