Hello
Guess the title says pretty much everything: Is it possible to use an external hard drive connected to on of the USB ports, as the destination for my Time Machine back of my mac.

It is possible to back up Time Machine that way, however, we don't recommend it.
In case the USB should get disconnected or drop offline, the Time Machine backup would fail.
For this reason it's best to directly attach the USB drive to the Mac, or to back up data to the NAS.

Well.. I'm think i'm willing to take the chance on that since it's only because i had the external lying around. It's not so important.
Any chance on some directions on how to do it? i think i've looked trough every single option in the web-manegment.

Here's the information on setting up backups to USB drives that are attached to the NAS:

Thanks for the links. Almost got i working, but i seem to have stumpled upon another problem:
Time Machine only allows me to backup to AFP shares and i can only connect to the external hard drive with SMB.
Is it me doing something wrong, or is it just not possible to have an external hard drive as an AFP share?

Upgrade the drive's firmware and let me know if that allows the backup to work:

My NAS is fully upgraded, but i still see no way to use the external hard drive as an AFP share. I imidiatly get server couldn't be found. If i connect to the exact same address, just as an SMB share instead, i can connect just fine.

I researched the issue for you and as it turns out, the can only be used as an SMB share.
