Black Armor 440 DLNA server does not work with Xbox360 or PS3

The DLNA server does not list video, pictures or music to the PS3 or the Xbox360.  These same files are successfully exported by DLNA serverices via both Windows Media Player and TwonkyMedia Server.

Re: Black Armor 440 DLNA server does not work with Xbox360 or PS3

pls check if you do the following

1. Enable media service

goto web, MEDIA, select the checkbox the enable the Service

2.  Enable media service for the shares you want to export the media

STORAGE-->Shares, you can examine if the "MS" has the symbol "V" if not, click "Modify" icon, enable "Media Service"

[ Edited ]

mygk1234,

Those items you mentioned in your previous post were checked.

After some testing I found that the dlna server was dying.  If I disable and reenable the "Media Service", and on the PS3 quickly scan the network for new media servers I will see it.  I can play a little bit of a video and then the DLNA server seems to crash as the PS3 gives an error and a additional scan from the PS3 does not find the dlna server.

Files are always offered in reverse numerical sequence.  For instance, If I had "Home.Movie.1.avi" and "Home.Movie.2.avi" the DLNA server offers them in the order of video number 2 and then video number 1.  This is a problem when I have the videos in a directory "BirthdayDec2004" and want to watch them in numerical order.

Side note,  The dlna server used on Seagate BlackArmor does not offer files named *.divx .  This is the name of the file used to register the divx codec on the PS3.  This file extension should not be filtered.

Does this device have a serial header on the motherboard or is that a usb or JTAG port?  I would sure like to see this stuff fixed... and after talking to Seagate support it seems they don't care or are not up to the task.

I'm temporarily mounting the data remotely on a linux box via nfs and using the TwonkyMediaServer to allow access to the media from the PS3 and Xbox360 with no issues.  This is completely unacceptable as I purchased this device to reduce my carbon footprint.  The Black Armor 440 8TB was purchased at $1,300.00 and has yet to reliably meet the capabilities stated on the devices spec sheet.

I may write a hardware review for a Linux Magazine.

Any progress in resolving this problem? I have a similar problem, only I am using the Seagate FreeAgent Theatre+ mediabox. My NAS is not being seen as a media-server, although I have marked it and the shares as it.   JT (Also: I use the BlackArmor 220)

I truely believe this is a self-help board ... not something Seagate is supporting or interested in. I think they offer it as a means to say they have a "Support Forum". Either we have to find the solution ourselves or we are out-of-luck.

Re: Black Armor 440 DLNA server does not work with Xbox360 or PS3

I wanted to say that I'm having the same issue.  Not able to see any media on my Xbox360 from the Blackarmor 220, yet directories are there.  The same files stream fine from a USB drive and a non-transcoding app on my desktop.

I've also enabled Media Serving and MS on the share directory.

The device is new.

Re: Black Armor 440 DLNA server does not work with Xbox360 or PS3

Well, technically it's not a DLNA server, it's an iTunes server. So if iTunes doesn't support divx movies, why should the iTunes server index these unsupported file types?

In my setup at home my music and the few movies I have in an iTunes format are streaming all right. No hiccups, after a days' streaming everything is still as responsive as it was.

Don't have a PS3 at home, but isn't it possible to setup access for the PS3 to the filesystem of the NAS? That way you can navigate to the folder the movies are stored in, select one and play? I'm doing the same with my PCH-A110, nothing fancy, just filesystem navigation.

Re: Black Armor 440 DLNA server does not work with Xbox360 or PS3

well........it does in the tech spec say it offers the DLNA feature, so if it talks the talk its expected to walk the walk. The annoying thing for me is that it was actually working perfectly with no real set up problems when I first got it. thats what is baffeling me.

and now it wont work at all,  PS3 can see the drive everytime I reset the media service but then errors when I try to play a file.

other than that problem the NAS 440 does the other things I need it to do, it just does not seam to get on with my PS3

Re: Black Armor 440 DLNA server does not work with Xbox360 or PS3

Right,

I think I got the answer to the problem. I remember before when the DLNA service was working fine on my PS3. I was running an older version of the NAS 440 Firmware. Reason why it did not click is because I lent my ps3 to someone for a month and while they had it up updated my firmware to the newest version and I have noticed that the new Firmware has an update to the DLNA server software. what triggered it for me was this post by someone in relation to the NAS 220 and 440 Firmware upgrade: http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/message?board.id=BlackArmorNAS&message.id=327

my problem now is does anyone know if there is a way to roll back the software version, without risk of data loss.

Im not much of a techy just using logic on this one

am gonna try and see if I can get it work later and will let you know.

Let me know if anyone does know how to roll back firmware version
