BlackArmor NAS 110 Folder Issues

OK, so I have searched and searched and searched, can't find the answer anywhere...

I just backed up my old hard-drive, mapped my share drive on the NAS 110 setup a few other accounts for a group here at the house. All was good, till I check the "Music" folder where I dropped my 20+ gigs of music in (which were all neatly organized by Artist-->Album folders) and the NAS 110 PUT THEM ALL IN ONE FOLDER!

Anyone have any clue as to fix this? I tried many different options under the modify tab for that share folder but no luck.

Also why does it take 20-minutes for the NAS 110 to just sort alphabetically the files IT PUT in the folder? That is ridiculous! Thinking about returning this over sized paper weight.

Don't even get me started on the permission settings for group/user accounts.

Hi sonney

Did you happen to enable the Drag&Sort Service on the share?  Here is a descrition in the manual:

Drag&Sort Service—You can set a share to automatically download media files to a

specific location on BlackArmor users’ computers, based on the type of files being

downloaded. For instance, downloaded music files would automatically be placed in a

folder called Music.

That could be why they ended up out of your original locations.

I also notice that operations within the NAS are very slow, as opposed to transactions from and to the NAS, which have acceptable transfer speeds for example.  It is almost as if anything that needs to be done inside the NAS needs to go to the computer first and then back to the NAS.  It could be perhaps the operating system in the NAS cant handle the sorting of the files internally, so the requesting computer has to do it.

I cant wait to get into the group settings myself to see what fun awaits there. lol

Re: BlackArmor NAS 110 Folder Issues

There is another thread on this here :

http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/message?board.id=BlackArmorNAS&thread.id=870

I had the same problem.  Even with Drag and Sort disabled, if you by accident click on the 'Sort Media' icon next to a share, it'll lift all your music out of the folders they are in and dump them into a big list.  The final post in the thread seems to be Seagate confirming the issue and that the 'Sort Media' icon will be removed.

Re: BlackArmor NAS 110 Folder Issues

Hello Sonny,

Sorry all your media was moved.

I submitted two BlackArmor NAS enhancement request last week.

1. Add a Popup when Enabling Drag & Sort that describes what will happen.

2. Remove the Sort Media Button when modifying shares as someone could accidentally or purposely

    sort someone else's media.

We must wait and see what future firmware revisions bring to us.

Re: BlackArmor NAS 110 Folder Issues

I honestly cannot believe what I am reading.

As the line in fight club goes " I wanted to destroy something beautiful" thats how i feel right now.

I CANNOT BELIEVE when i accidentally hit the sort media button IT JUST MOVED 250 GB OF MOVIES VIDEOS AND PICTURES INTO ONE FOLDER.

I honestly cant think of a time other than right now that I have ever been more upset about a computer EVER and i mean ever. HECK , i work in on a service desk for an insurance company and the daily IDIOTS i deal with doesnt compare to this.

I would like to formally request that whoever created that god forsaken little button on the page be fired and never work in the industry again. This has likely caused me hours and hours and hours of restructuring all my data. I honestly cant believe this mess. TO make matters worse just as I thought my drive was setup perfect , i removed the data off my PC.

i want to off my self.

truly yours,

Dan
