BlackArmor NAS400 - HDD LEDs solid green after Firmware update (sg4000-4000.1281)

[ Edited ]

I've updated my BlackArmor NAS400 this morning with the newly released firmware sg4000-4000.1281.

After the update, my BA became inaccessible after about 1 minute.

My current configuration.

• DHCP is provided by my Idling DSL-2740U router which is connected to a Idling Gigabit unmanaged switch.

• BA's LAN1 and LAN2 is plugged into the Idling Gigabit unmanaged switch. Each LAN is configured to use DHCP

• BA has 4x 2TB Seagate Barracuda Green ST2000DL003 drives in a RAID5 configuration.

Here is what happens:

After system startup:

1. The System Status LED is a solid blue.

2. LAN1 and LAN2 LED is flickering, thus indicating network activity. I can PING both LAN1 and LAN2 and get a response back.

3. The HDD LEDs 1-4 are blinking GREEN.

4. BA shows up on BlackArmor Discovery tool.

5. I can access the BA's web adman tool.

6. Shares are available for access

7. Can press the 2 buttons on the LCD display and view settings

After about ONE minute after system startup:

1. The System Status LED is a solid blue.

2. LAN1 and LAN2 LED is flickering, thus indicating network activity. I can PING both LAN1 and LAN2 and get a response back.

3. The HDD LEDs 1-4 are all SOLID GREEN.

4. No device displayed in BlackArmor Discovery tool.

5. Unable to access the BA's web adman tool.

6. Cannot see any shares as device does not display on network, ie. \\IP returns device not available

7. The 2 buttons on the LCD display is doing anything

I've restarted a couple of time, taken out the drives in order and placed them back in order. At some of these system restart the boot process did not get past the "BOOTING" phase, with either DRIVE1 or DRIVE2 or both DRIVE1 and DRIVE2 LED not showing not sowing either green or amber.

I need to pull the cable in order to reboot as the power button is not doing anything.

I've tried to call Seagate Support, an international call, but was cut of twice. I've send an Email Support request, received a Reference number, but have not received any confirmation that it was received by Seagate.

Any help would be appreciated.

I also have a question or two:

1. If I press the RESET button at the back of the BA, will it only reset the device's settings or will it wipe my data as well?

2. Can I update the firmware in the minute that the BA is up to the previous version? (I still have this on disk)

I really need to get this up and running since all our business documents are stored on the device, as it is used as both storage and backup and we have lost a whole days work today.

Thanks in advance.

Resetting the device by the pinhole would be a good troubleshooting step. And to answer your question about the process - it doesn't destroy any data you have stored on the device, it only resets the network settings (including the web UI's username and password back to default).

Be sure to press the reset button for at least 30 seconds.

Let me know if that changes anything, and we'll go from there.

Give a hoot. Backup your data on a second storage media.

Re: BlackArmor NAS400 - HDD LEDs solid green after Firmware update (sg4000-4000.1281)

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback on the reset button. I've tried that after getting through to the Tech support call centre. But it did not work.

After plenty of reboots My NAS is available for a couple of minutes, but the RAID5 volume is lost. The CEO is not happy about this as his backups to the NAS drive failed and is no longer available.

any ideas on getting the RAID5 volume back?
