Cannot boot recovery media

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I have an NAS 420 (with four drives) as a network server. I have recently bought a new Intel I7 processor, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit PC. All is set up and backups are working well as usual.

However I am trying to make a recovery CD for this PC and get 'Unable to load Linux Kernel - press enter to reboot' after selecting Blackarmor from the Windows/Blackarmor menu on booting.

I have tried using 'create recovery media' under 12.1.9823 software and also using the downloadable hybrid46.ISO file.

My C drive is a new solid state disk, but that should not affect booting from the CD

Despite links, email support is not available for the NAS 420, grrr!

Any ideas please?

Chris

Reply or, at least, an acknowledgement would be nice.

Re: Cannot boot recovery media

I am surpised if I am the first person with this problem on a brand new latest spec PC, if i am I won't be the last.

The failure if the recovery CD must require a new release of the ISO image and/or Blackarmor Software to cover some new driver not picked up on my PC.

I would thus hope that someone from Seagate would at least have the courtesy to reply to this thread for a product that is still being retailed.

Hi and thanks for the reply.

I have tried the chat window and email support to be informed that NAS 440 support is not covered by these services.

Thus this was my hope of trying to bring the problem to the notice of Seagate and getting steps to a resolution started.

Thus could you please advise where I should go from here please?

From a frustrated Chris.

Please note the ISO image boots my older 32 bit PC without problem

Re: Cannot boot recovery media

Problem Solved.

Searching the Acronis solutions I found references to SATA configuration and AHCi / IDE causing problems. The PC is as supplied and configured by Scan Computers in the UK with their 3XS build service. When I checked the BIOS the SATA configuration was set to RAID though I do not have a RAID set on this PC.

Changing to IDE facilitated a full recovery ISO boot but with 'No Hard Drives Found' message. Changing to AHCI fixed the problem and allowed a normal boot from the recovery CD.

I am now very relieved!

My experience with getting help from Seagate over a product that is still within warranty has been poor to say the least. If I had not found the solution myself I could not find access to support on the support pages. Links to email support existed from NAS 440 pages only to be told that email support is not available, similar with the chat pages. The FAQ's go nowhere near this problem and there is no link that I found to talk to someone in the UK.

You can imagine my comments on the support survey!!
