Correct, the reset button on the back resets the network config and the admin password.
It doesn't have a factory default function accessible via the web interface. To reset it back to factory defaults you would have to wipe all of the drives on a different host and then power the BlackArmor back on. It will then rebuild everything from scratch.
In general you shouldn't have to do this. Any reason in particular you wanted to do it?

You shouldn't need to reset the entire unit for this. You can, but shouldn't be necessary.
As for the domain issue, couple of questions:
Does the device work as expected in the Workgroup mode?
It appears you can't browse to the device in domain mode, can you access it manually using \\IPaddress or \\NameOfDrive?
Are you getting any errors trying to access it?

I have a BlackArmor and wish to remove the two drives l have and insert 1TB ST3100340NS ES.2 drives that my borther has provided.
Can you guide me how to do a factory default so l can format the drives for the unit?
Or is there another way of inserting new drives and getting the unit to work?
Thanks

Chris, will you please explain in detail how to go about doing this? I have a Blackarmor 420 which came with 2 x 1TB drives. I removed them both and installed two fresh (new) SATA drives. Once I powered up the box, nothing happened. I couldn't even ping the IP address of the box. This means that the OS is perhaps located on the drives that came with the NAS box?
I'm still busy testing this device before making it live to make sure I understand all the functions of the box in case of disaster. Let's say for instance I lose one/both the hard disks that came with the box, how do I recover from such a disaster after I've replaced the faulty disks with new ones? Why is this not documented in the user manual?

you may reset your device to factory defaults by following the procedere described here:
short: download and run factorydefault.exe, input the mac adress of your device and navigate your browser to the the url provided by the
factorydefault.exe
The reset on my BA 440 took about 24h for the raid rebuild so be patient... and dont expect everything to be better after the rebuild - leave the
device in workstation mode...

Thanks Torsten. It gave me some hope up to the point where I had to click on proceed with "factory reset" when I received an error 404 message in my browser. I upgraded my firmware yesterday (shortly after I received the unit) and I have a feeling the new firmware might not be compatible with this application or procedure. I've tried it a few times. Even with a different pair of disks in the unit. I've used IE 8. So not sure if the browser might have something to do with it. I'll try firefox in a while. I whish Seagate would make users more aware of apps like these or at least mention it in the manual. Have to say my experience with this unit has not been good so far. The only reason I bought it was for the encryption. If it wasn't for that I probably would have looked at something else.

I know that this is old topic, but it may help someone to not wander around just like I did.
Just wipe out all partitions from the disks and put it back into NAS. Start it and it should start to rebuild the system.
In a few minutes you will have working NAS (with new disks) with RAID 0 or 5, depending on nuber of disks.
And, you CAN use any model or brand of disks, Seagate (thanks GOD) doesn't check if the disks are Seagate's or not. I've tried with WD Caviar Green 1.5 TB and with Samsung 1.0 TB.
