Hello All,
A while back I installed the debian Linux Lenny firmware and everything went fine. Today when i wanted to go to the NAS box i
could not see it in the network. I managed to get on the nas by connecting it to another router (because the ip address of the box was in another subnet)
i managed to login by using telnet. It appears that the box was resetted back to its 'unofficial firmware' factory state (lenny). But almost all the things are gone
the only services i have right know are:
chroot
crond
inetd
pivot_root
telnetd
udhcpd
The box is mounted as read-only (by using the image on the flash)
The only thing i can do is telnet onto the box and thats about it.
All the services/programs i had installed (webmin, apache, ssh, ftp + the mounted data) are all gone.
(the ipaddress has its default addresss: 192.168.1.2)
and the username and password are also resetted back to there default as stated on the noerenberg website)
Is there a way to reinstall the lenny firmware to the box so i have all the standard functions back?
(the only thing i can now use is telnet in the read-only state (because im using the flash os))
Kind regards,
SuperSmash

SuperSmash,
the preroot system starts with IP 192.168.1.2 if anything goes wrong during boot phase (some kind of 'emergency mode', e.g. the system can not find the boot HDD).
Maybe your HDD is broken (hardware failure). Try 'fdisk -l' to list all available HDD partitions.

The 2 drives are listed as /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1
if i try to mount the drives using the command mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/media/harddisk2
then i got a folder lost+found that contains no data
and on the sda1 i got the error failed: device or resource busy
a force mount gives the same error
what can i do to mount it properly ?
EDIT: I found out that the /dev/md0 was mounded on the /mnt (this is my filesystem)
is that also the harddisk 1 or is it the mounted filesystem of the flash (with write support?)
I also enabled the /etc/default/bootlogd file by using the echo 'BOOTLOGD_ENABLE=Yes' >> /etc/default/bootlogd command but it does not have any information written in it when restarting the device
Attached is a text file with the content of the dmesg command maybe this can help.
is there any way to reinstall the lenny firmware from scratch ?

it works !
after removing all the log files the NAS box started to boot again
Thanks you for your help
EDIT:
After i came home the NAS drive was dead again. Now i cant even connect to it using its default ipaddress 192.168.1.2 (so its not in kernel panic mode).
The led is just blinking and it does not respond to keyboard input can it be that the udev is dead ?
Does anyone know how to connect to it now?

Some questions about installation of Debian/Linux 5.0.7 :
- After installation, how to administrate the NAS :
- with Putty f.e., means based on command line input
- graphical interface like WinSCR supported (based on Windows PC)
- Will the actual created shares be deleted during installation, or will they be kept including content,
and the access rights can be defined again by above Putty or WinSCR ?`
- DLNA server SW like MediaTomb already included ?

Hajo superrrr work !!!
i have now installed your Debian on my new bought NAS 110
I do have a question, after installing webmin, samba, editing the fstab for mounting the md3 to /home and setting up my neywork i did a reboot and it tooks a while before the network was coming up.
By default in webmin the egiga network is not enabled.
Should i enable this interface at boot because it took a long time before i could reach the nas ?
Thanks for all input

i have debian lenny running on my NAS110, i would like to attempt to build some alsa sound modules for this box so i can use some usb audio stuff with this box.
is this possible?
i have a slackware laptop to work with......
what does one need to compile modules?
can it be done on the NAS110 itself? (with lenny installed)
any help would be appreciated.

First: Thanks Hajo for his great work!
I installed Lenny on my BA110 successfully. Then i changed the root password and installed samba. Unfortunately "root" does not accept new or old password anymore although i am using correct passwords. :-(
I did the changes via Putty from Windows.
- Does any expert know, what might went wrong and how to resolve this situation?
- Is there any way to reset the password? (the reset button?)

@dn1: Your resolv.conf&sources.list is like mine which still worked some weeks ago, it just seems that Debian either removed or moved some folders of lenny on their servers and so it gets "404 Not Found", can anyone comment on this why they changed their structure ?
