Hi

I've bought a NAS220 Today an made a SPAN Volume with the included 2x2TB Drives. I tested the Speed over a 1GBit Network speed (no other clients, just 1 PC and the NAS).

The Write speed was about 22.5MB/s at 1Gbit and 11.5MB/s at 100Mbit.

Read speed was about 38MB/s at 1GBit and 12MB/s at 100Mbit

With the new firmware i have the following Speeds!!!

Read: 1Gbit: 12MB/s

Write: 1Gbit: 12MB/s

Read: 100Mbit: 6.3MB/s

Write: 100Mbit: 6.5MB/s

WHAT THE ******* ????

I also tryied RAID0 but no bether speed... I'm also thinking that the Formatting of the Drives takes now much time more as with the old firmware.

I have a 2000.05xx Firmware but i can't Flash it becaus the Webinterface says "You have the latest Firmware already"

Someone the same Problem or can give me help with that issue?

Is your problem like what is reported in this thread?

You never did mention what router or switch you are using and there have been many posts using D-Link products with the NAS and the link above is just one of them.

Formatting is going to take a while no matter what you do.  It has to write 4TB  (actually, a bit less than 4TB because the

drives really more like 1.9T, and the BA takes a chunk for its Linux system.

Yes, i've read this thread. It's not that i have that low speed (he's got 50kbyte/s).. I also tested it without a router (NAS direct connected to the PC with Static IP settings).

I use the LAN Cable who whas delivered with the NAS...

I also have the same speed with AND without a Gigabit Switch. Before the Firmware the write speed was 2x faster and the Read speed 4x...

There are many people who think 12mb/s is normal, but i think they didn't measure the speed before the Firmware upgrade...

Yes i understand that the Formating take some Time, but i think its slower after the Firmware upgrade!

Am I the only one who recognized that?

I have the same experience after the new firmware.

Got my new  BA NAS 220 last week  and ran a speed test with a 2 GB file and the result was great.

Read: 40 MB/s and Write: 20 MB/s

Then I  updated to latest firmware 2000.0601 and made a new test and the result was now lower speed?

Read: 15 MB/s and Write: 12 MB/s

Same config, same Lan, same file and same result on all 5 computers

I am confused of how to solve this problem because i cannot back the firmware to previous version and this is NOT acceptable speeds when I had better result with the old firmware.

Hi, thanks for reply.

Same story after my firmware upgrade from 0...321 to 0...601. Read and write speed twice as slower than before.All of my files/data untouched after upgrade to a new frimware no backup needed before, but on they are instructions it's reccomended(save all or critical!). When i was backing up my NAS to my PC data transfer rate was good enough about 40 MB, after upgrade 16MB.....! ONLY.

The question is how often its usually takes for them to create a new firmware?

I still have 4 weeks to return my NAS.

I thinks so this NAS not user friendly and on or by my opinion for lezy people, so many known issues with this piece of c..p.I'm not saying that i would not reccomend for someone, even my self I like an idea of  NAS.

Another alternative maybe much better then just regular NAS.....

Mini-ITX MoBo(with RAID 0/1) + Mini ATX Case, basic CPU 2GB of RAM and 2 good 1 or 2 TB HDD.....(total cost $ 50+65+30+200) and whoala, you will have much better experience and speed will be atlest 3x times faster....... If you compare size of this NAS and size of a new Mini ITS PC/SERVER it's not such a big difference.....

It may cost a little more (about $50-$70) but you get what you pay for..... Just my 2 cents...

Hi again

I am very satisfied with this NAS and don't want to change it i just want to have some help to get the great speed back that i had out of the box.

I have now tested the new firmware 2000.0631 from Seagate manual download.

The Lan speed is the same as with the 0601 firmware 15/12 MB/s and I cannot see any other differences compared with the old one.

When I look into my NAS220 systemstatus i can see that the firmware is

"Firmware Version  2000.0631 Built on Thu, 25 Mar 2010"

And the date is good information that i think at least should be at the downloadpage.

I could not find a single answer on the question about the fatal drop in Lan-speed after updating firmware, So where is the Seagate support? is it so that you don't believe us? I have tested even with fixed IP over different switches with the same result.

Help us Seagate with this problem that you created.

Hi,

I have the same problem after updating to 631.

This problem is meanwhile confirmed by the support. To bring back the old speed the support proposed me to reapply the firmware once more, erase the array and build a new one.

After doing this, I made a new test but nothing changed. The lousy speed kept on.

Now I am waiting for a new proposal of the support respectively I will send the drive to Seagate for fixing.

I just bought a new NAS220(updated to latest firmware) and was a bit disappointed by the speed and updated to the latest firmware 2000.1211.

I guess the SMB implementation is the reason for the slow speeds!

When I use standard copy via SMB i can write only with 3-4MB/s      (with 100MBit switch)

I tried to connect directely to my PC (which has a gigabit networkcard) and got just  a slight improvement with 5MB/s

Now I tried writing over FTP and I get about 7 MB/s  (the 100MBit switch again).

Tomorrow I will try FTP with a Gigabit-switch,

let's see how much that helps...
