BlackArmor NAS Network Storage Server

From what I've read, there appears to be no way to directly connect two NAS 440s (sitting next to each other).  The downside is that backup jobs have to pass over our network instead of directly across a cable (USB or Ethernet - null modem cable) between the two machines.

Is this correct?

It's true that one can't connect the BlackArmor NAS drives directly.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I'm totally new to NAS boxes and doing backups with them.

I want to do NAS-NAS backups, but offsite.

I want to have one on-site and one off-site and have the on-site one update the off-site one.

Can Seagate/Blackarmor do this?  I've gone through the manual and the info online, and i'm not sure how I would

do this yet.

And, if it can, must I have a true VPN setup between sites or can I do it another method? (behind firewalls of course)

Sorry, performing a NAS to NAS backup the way you described isn't supported with these devices.

So, based on what I read, if I have an offsite location running through a VPN (essentially seeing the same LAN), then I can backup NAS-to-NAS, right?  It says you can backup NAS to NAS over a LAN.  Isn't an offisite location via VPN the same as being on a LAN?

Isn't that what I asked?  If it could be done at all, and if you had to use a VPN tunnel to do it?  What is not supported about that?  Does it not work?  Other brands claim thats how you do it.  I was hoping not to have to setup a VPN.
