Can you please ellaborate? Are you telling me just go ahead and JBOD it and use a NAS head like a Cisco home router?
So you are basically saying the Media Server on the NAS-220 is useless and does not work and is a peice??
Thanks...

I wish I had read these forums before just spending $1500 on the 440 with 12TB of memory.
I seem to be having the same problems on my home network. I can use my 4 year old Dell Laptop and Windows 7 to stream videos to my 360's but it wont work from my 440 with the exact same videos. I can see the folders but it shows nothing inside. Prior to the update I did today to 4000.12.11 I could see the movies too but now I can only see the folders and no movies. what!! Also, I cant get it to stream any of my music to the 360's either...but that could be a different problem I havnt looked at yet.
Anyone know how we can get help on this? Seems like a huge problem?

Something to add from my last post which may help.
I went through a bunch of file types and finally had success where my 360 would see the file AND be able to play it, but, Im not that technical so maybe someone can help. This is a screen shot of my list of files, the LAST test file is the only one that is playable even though ALL are .avi's?(image is attached)
Any comments, or suggestions? I am thinking I have to use something like Handbrake to convert all my movies to this file type to be able to stream them?

Hi all,
Any updates? To recap - I have my Blackarmor NAS as well. Wokring with an xbox 360. Accessing the NAS with no problem. Seeing folders. Vast majority of files are not showing at all (folders are empty). Those files that are showing cannot be played. Accessing the NAS and playing the files via a computer is not a problem.
Thanks

The level of support from Seagate that I am seeing in this and similar threads is appaling from such a large company. It seems they have admins prepared to censor posts, but not provide suggestions, solutions, nor make a statement on behalf of Seagate.
I've only had my Black Armor NAS220 for a couple of weeks, and after a quick test with a few videos, I commited to the NAS and moved all my music, photos and videos onto the NAS. The reasons for buying this device was twofold: external storage and a DLNA server.
I now seem to have problems similar to others as decribed in this thread (and others):
- DLNA server not found by my clients (4 different devices). Since found it can be manually fixed by disaplying and re-enabling media service, but I shouldn't have to do this. I just was a server that works for the devices being used by my young kids.
- Music & photos found ok, but although video folders are displayed, my clients think there are no files in these folders.
So it seems these problems have been around since at least May this year and it is now September. I have the latest firmware already, so what else can I do? What a waster of money. Why should I now have to resort to having a PC based DLNA server just to get the support I expected from this NAS device?
Come on Seagate, make a statement!!!!!

Thanks for your participation in the our forums so far. Please remember that this is an online community where many of the responses come from other users, such as yourself. The forum is not a replacement for Customer Service. Seagate representative do from time to time come to lend a hand answering posts but not necessarily on a continual or frequent basis. If you have immediate needs, your best bet is to contact Customer Service directly whether by phone, email, chat, Twitter or Facebook.
To get to the bottom of the issue you're encountering it would be good to have additional details. Have you updated your NAS to the latest firmware version?

I am an admin on 2 forums myself so I do recognise the value of community input. However after at least 6 months at least, the community do not have a solution. Since the forums are found under the Support section of the Seagate website, I did expect a modicome of support input from the manufacturer themselves. Not doing so is like buying a car and taking it back for repair and them saying "Here is the garage, fix it betwen yourselves, we are just here to maintain the building" - not acceptable.
Thankyou for the firmware update link. I have done it and it hasn't helped. In fact my DLNA clients now do not find any photo files as well as the videos. I had already checked that I had the latest version using the web browser interface and it said there were no new updates. Obviously there were updates, so do we now conclude that the auto-update firmware feature also does not work? Or is it that Seagate do not bother to maintain the online aspect of proving firmware for auto-updates.
Looks like I will have to contact support directly. If I get a solution, I will be helpful enough to post back the resolution

Also, do anyone else find that the description of setting up media services on this page http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/21
Under Media, my only option is "Media Services" and not "DMS Properties". When I go in there I get different options from those described
