Hi, I purchased Seagate BlackArmor NAS 220 this year, I was very patient with it, but now my patience expired...
This device is taking forever to delete many small files and it is killing me ![]()
Now with just-rebooted system and empty recycle bin (the size is set to 30%) I try to delete ~5700 files in ~700 folders, their size is 139 MB (146 032 848 bytes), size on disk is 142 MB (149 140 480 bytes). Delete shows 3 minutes remaining, it changes to 5, 6, 9 minutes, on some files (it is vizually seen) deleting is paused/sticked - I guess here is the problem that windows calculates more and more deleting time.
Deleted ~1/3 - time is left 8 minutes;
Deleted ~1/2 - time is left 6-10 minutes;
Deleted ~2/3 - time is left 3-4 minutes;
Overall duration deleting these files was ~15 minutes
If there was no that strange sticks/pauses maybe performance would be normal.. Calculating windows properties/size of these files lasting ~30sec - thats pretty normal for that amount of files and folders. So the deleting is the point and the problem..
In other posts I found advice to shut-off recycle bin manager, but for this device it is impossible - I can only set the recycle-bin size by percent, and 0 "is not correct value". So I delete for portions all that files and for every portion I'm going to empty recycle bin (thats nice isn't it? instead of help users it only wastes their time, because I don't need it at all) - it seems faster to complete.

Hey there,
the slow deletion of files is indeed caused by the recycle bin, on my 110 it takes forever to delete a bunch of small files (i keep the recycle bin active in case i mess up something). The recycle bin can be disabled/enabled in the storage>shares menu (you can chose which share gets the recycle bin).

Updating the firmware to our current version, 2000.1331:
Let me know if it doesn't improve things.

Anyone having problems with this firmware deleting files? Multiple files are getting flagged unable to delete and some are flagged as shared with another user. Seagate, this was supposed to be a basic NAS storage unit, but seems to be missing the basic capability to add and remove files properly. I am using multiple different PCs, Windows 7 and Windows XP. None of them can delete these files once they become flagged. Tried Unlocker and other utilities, no help. Sorry, but I have had this Seagate NAS 220 now for about 3 weeks, purchased new and not very impressed that I have to chase down fixes for what should be a basic function of a storage media device. Upgrade firmware 2000.1331 and still no help. Support does not seem to have a clue. Maybe it's time to get a refund and move on to another manufacturer as Seagate's products do not seem to work well at all. I have multiple Seagate products, have replaced all of my Maxtor units due to failures with Seagate Barracuda drives and decided to Seagate's BlackArmor. Now I know where it get's it's name. Once you place your files on there, the Armor is so tight you will never be able to get them off the drive if you choose to do so. If anyone has any ideas, please share them about what to do to resolve this problem. I have tried everything (turning off AV products, re-enabling shares, re-updating the NAS firmware, using Unlocker tools, etc.). This is ONLY happening with the Seagate BlackArmor NAS 220. I have Seagate AXIS NAS drives that I am copying the files from, there I have no issues from those units. Next step, throwing the Seagate BlackArmor NAS drive against the wall. Anyone with any ideas?
