I purchased a "ST310005N1A1AS-RK" Drive from Best Buy on 1/5/09 I'm not sure of the drive model now but it was something like ST31000333(or 340)AS . In June or July it started making the dreaded failing drive click so I quickly tried to retrieve my data but being the biggest HDD I own and being near full I had to dump it to a combo of 7 other HDD to save it all, then I set it up to run Seatools and everything passed. puzzled that the noise stopped I thought maybe I was hearing things and that I was paranoid about high capacity disks (I’ve had a 20,80GB Maxtor and 2x4GB WD HDD all fail prematurely back when each was a large capacity disk the 4GB's were in P1 Packard Bell’s, 20GB in my P3 Gateway and 80GB in my P4 HP) so I kept using it with no problems until October when the noise returned but this time it BSOD any computer it was put in. So I looked up the warranty and on Seagate’s site it stated "Seagate offers worldwide customer support for Seagate and Maxtor products. Seagate direct OEM, Distribution, and System Integrator customers should contact their Seagate customer support representative for warranty information. Other customers should contact their place of purchase." so I went to Best Buy and exchanged the disk for a new one. I thought all was well until Tuesday when it happened again. This time I only had about 300GB of data on it so it should’ve been easier to save but I was only able to save some of it, luckily it was still backed up from the last crash or wasn't important like software installers I can re-download. I am currently running the Long DST but it has been 3hours and I don't know how long it should take. When trying to copy data it will appear that it is coping with a remaining time of maybe 10min then it will jump to 15hours and sometimes freeze the computer. Here are the specs I have
Drive 1: Purchase online 1/4/09 picked up 1/5/09 Retail Kit #: ST310005N1A1AS Lifetime: 10months 8days
Drive 2: Exchanged from Drive 1 on 10/13/09 Series: 7200.12 Drive M/N: ST31000528AS Firmware Version: CC34 Lifetime: 84days
I used to be a huge Seagate fan but now I am disappointed, I don’t think I can trust another replacement drive with my data. There is no firmware update for this drive. What should I do, I can’t afford to exchange drives every few months I just don’t have the time. I wonder if I can exchange it for 2x500GB drives I have a 500GB Seagate in an external enclosure and it has worked flawlessly for 3+ years!

ok so right after I finished typing the first post I went to check the test status, unbeliveably it passed but as soon as i tried to access the drive it locked the computer and threw a BSOD 0x124, Last time it BSODed i didn't get the number so I don't know if it was the same.
Thanx in advance.

Well I exchanged that second drive again and here it is 7 months later and the replacement is making that same continuous clicking noise. Thanks a lot Seagate now I have to quickly find a place to dump 926GB of music, pictures, and video. This is absolutely REDICULOUS! Anybody got a good HDD manufacture recomendation?
