identified a ST3500320AS as needing firmware flash from SD15 to SD1A using Seagate site tools
burned ISO to CDR and launched FreeDOS on MacPro (early 08 2.8ghz 8 core)
drive now listed as 'failing' by SMART - cannot reformat
followed everything to the letter on Seagate site and now I have a dead drive and a postage cost to cover to get a refurb. Not happy.
WD gets our business from now on. We buy 30+ drives a year as in graphics postproduction.
product number does end in '-303'

Have you flashed it with the bios SMART enabled?
Always best to do any flashing with default bios setting enabled, you don't want any options like AHCI etc enabled.
As for WD, I wouldn't bother, you'll be sobbing in no time at all, if you must change brand get Samsung Spinpoints.
Try to flash it again with bios default.
