I have a ST31500341AS drive I'm trying to do a Head stack replacement on. I have looked for a replacement drive to use, but have not had any luck. My question is can I use a drive with different Firmware? I have a Seagate Model: ST31500341AS, P/N:9JU138-568, Country:Thailand, Firmware CC3H.
I have found drives with everything the same but the firmware. Most have Firmware CC1H. What do I need to do to make that work? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your input. If I got what you wrote my first 3 digits of my serial number would be: 9VS. What does that mean? I'm attempting to recovery the data on my drive. One of the problems is that the read / write heads are stuck to the platter. I'm trying to find out what steps are needed to recover the data on my drive. I thought I need an exact drive to recover data. If there are other ways please point me to them.
