I have an old internal hard-drive which I am trying to copy onto a new maxtor hard-drive (os and all). I have put them both in USB hard-drive enclosures and am working on an XP machine SP2. The new maxtor drive (which is unformatted) gets detected, but does not show up as a drive letter. I've tested this drive on my Vista laptop and it behaves the same way. The trouble-shooting guide in the knowledge-base describes how to use the windows "disk management" feature. When I use that I see that the new maxtor drive shows up under device manager, but not under "disk management" - so I can't format it.
Could someone please help me figure out how to get my new drive to show-up as a drive letter so I can format it and clone my old drive onto the new one?
I am using an acomdata external hard-drive enclosure to house the new Maxtor drive.
