Yup, it's true. Mine was bricked from the original SD1A firmware and I'm back in business, loaded OS and all data still on there.
Good Luck Everyone

Yes! Just flashed with the new SD1A FW and my ST3500320AS is back in business. It had been installed in a D-Link DNS-323 NAS box and thus was formatted with the ext3 file system butr after installing an ext2/3 IFS into windows I was able to browse the linux partitions.
I'll put it back in the NAS box now and see how it behaves.
The nightmare is over.

My ST3500320AS is still bricked. It was rendered inoperable by the initial SD1A firmware release. The new firmware was unable to detect the drive, and thus could not be installed. Any suggestions?
What kind of motherboard/controller is the drive hooked up to? Do you have another available (or even another computer with a SATA controller) to try the update with? If the drive is truly bricked then you may have to send it off to Seagate.
