2 years ago i purchased 5 250gig 7200.10 HardDrives.
About 3 months ago they started to randomly go out. I would attempt to boot up and my device 0 would not detect in bios or sometimes another device would not detect. I would mess with the arrangement of the drives and finally it would recognize again and sometimes run for a few weeks before happening again.
At first i thought maybe it was windows 7 drivers so i switched to vista for a while. Same thing happened again.
After running the Seagate tools Dos utility i discovered that there were 3 drives with errors so i repaired them all and reinstalled Windows 7.
After setting everything up i go to reboot my computer and all of a sudden 3 drives dont post in bios. I tried rebooting some 10 times to see if i could get them to post and no luck.
Being that the drives that were not posting were not the OS drive i booted up into Windows 7 again and loaded up the drive manager. The drives listed there but were showing as disconnected so i used the reconnect option and they turned back up while in windows.
For the life of me i cannot understand why this is happening and what the cause of the problem is.
Could it be my Raid controller? or Power source?
Keep in mind that i ran these hard drives for a good 2 years with this exact same computer setup with no issues.
I really do not want to start buying new motherboards and power sources until i can verify the actual problem.
I have read a lot about the 7200.11 but have not heard if the same problem is happening with the 7200.10
Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
