I just got a replacement drive and it developed bad sectors within weeks. It developed 2KB of bad sectors, is it worth me returning or is it fine for me to continue to use it. In other words do bad sectors spawn other bad sectors? Personally I would like to keep it if I know that my data is safe.
I have never had as much problem with any of my machines with a hard drive as much as I have with ST3160813AS model drive. This is the third time I have had issues with this model on two different machines, the latest being on an old Intell D945PLRN motherboard with XP Pro.
It started going wrong when the IDE Channel "Transfer Mode" on the drive kept changing from "Ultra DMA Mode 5" to PIO. Then the drive got rejected by the system while it was being written on. Is that normal?
Any advice on what I should do.
