Hi, I have the same problem as you. But my problem was happened after I update the firmware SD15 to SD1A. I have 3 hard drive which type is ST3500320AS but only one which P/N is 9BX154-"303" and made in Thailand occur the Smart status bad and the other two hard drives' P/N and source is not the same as the problem drive.
I am so confused why the other 2 drives can be updated the new firmware announced by the seagate company and have a good work, but just one drive had occurred the "Smart status bad" showed on the BIOS screen.
You may disable the s.m.a.r.t technology in the BIOS setting and boot your PC without any errors to your operation system. And the drive disabled the s.m.a.r.t function is still worked well.
So... Does any one know how to fix it? or can take some actions to make sure the drive can be reliable.
Please send the advise for me via PM
By the way, before updating , the drive doesn't have the smart status bad message.

Yep. I have the same issue with one of the 4 drives I updated.
It's showing SMART status as bad & can't be seen in windows / active kill disk (was planning to zero-fill the disk). Also disk can't be seen by seatools boot disk or the firmware update disk.
I'm just going to RMA it, but if I had any data on it that i needed. I would have Seagate recover it at their cost - It's all down to this firmware issue in the first place.
