Re: DiscWizard does not detect drive

The technical depth of that last post is incredible. Thanks for nothing.

One could make the same argument about yours...

Re: DiscWizard does not detect drive

I am guessing that my problem was maybe the mobo chipset.
Discwizard could not handle Vostro 200.. (Perhaps the most widely sold computer on the planet.). Intel G33 chipset.
I moved my drives to an old AMD 700mhz box with a PCI SIL controller and I was able to do the clone using DW.

Re: DiscWizard does not detect drive

I noticed something...

Downloaded latest DiscWizard (build 5077), and had the same problem (error E000101F4), my new Seagate (ST3750840AS) wasn't found, when I tried to use full version with USB etc. support.  BUT, the other version without USB support found my disk, and I was able to backup partition C to partition D .

But, what's more important, I noticed that changing SATA Configuration on my new Asus P5Q-E made also the Full version to work! By default, SATA Configuration is "Enhanced", but changing it to "Compatible" made the Full version to work.

By the way, bios version on my motherboard is very old (0605 from 06/03/08) but before updating the bios I don't know if it affects to this problem.

Hope this could help you, DiscWizard is a great program when it's working !

Re: DiscWizard does not detect drive

Hi Mattik,

Thanks for the comments. I have recently put together a new ASUS P5Q-E system (BIOS 1306, still a problem) and have been trying to restore backups for three days with the same result. MaxBlast 5 does not recognize my IDE Seagate and Maxtor drives. I suspect the chipset (Intel P45/ICH10R) is newer than the MaxBlast 5 version. My SATA config is presently Enhanced but will try Compatible mode tonight.

Re: DiscWizard does not detect drive

Download the latest version of DiscWizard and try with that. I haven't used MaxBlast myself  but it's propably the same program as DiscWizard ? If it is , they may, however, be based on different versions of Acronis True Image , so  try DiscWizard .

Re: DiscWizard does not detect drive

Hi Mattik,

DiscWizard appears to have similar issues. Both DiscWizard and MaxBlast5 appear to be the same except for a few cosmetic differences. I don't know why both are posted by Seagate support. But I'm still not sure this is a software issue. My issues seem to be BIOS related but strangely different than yours.

As I mentioned, I used MaxBlast5 on my old PC booted from a CD. For my new PC (P5Q-E) I used MaxBlast and DiscWizard to create a bootable USB thumbdrive and that appears to be what failed. The PC would boot but MaxBlast5 and DiscWizard could not find the Maxtor IDE drives (3 of 'em). Now I find everything works as expected when I change the BIOS SATA config to AHCI. Except WinXP Pro will not boot from the SATA drive unless SATA config is IDE COMPATIBLE or ENHANCED. Linux also only boots from a LiveCd if the config is AHCI.  Also, the PC won't boot from the SATA HD when my external USB HD is powered on. DiscWizard does recognize the external HD when SATA is AHCI so I can again make backups. Strange inconsistencies but at least it is working.
