MAXBLAST does not work with RAID.

Greetings,

I recently bought two Maxtor SATA II/300 500GB drives (model STM3500630AS) and installed them into my system, using the SATA RAID feature on the motherboard. (ULI chipset). They are configured as a RAID 1 (mirrored) array.

The problem is that when I try to boot the MAXBLAST 5 software, It produces an error message saying that it requires at least one Seagate or Maxtor drive in the system, then it shuts down the computer.

Apparently, the virtual disk array presented by the RAID BIOS is disguising the true nature of the underlying drives, so MAXBLAST can't identify them as Maxtor-branded drives.

Is there any way of working around this so that I can use the MaxBlast software the way it was intended?

Your help would be appreciated.

Re: MAXBLAST does not work with RAID.

The software is not made for Raids. You should use your typical OS partition program.

Re: MAXBLAST does not work with RAID.

Hello,

The last message in this subject dates from 2007.

We are now in 2011, is that the tool "MaxBlast" still does not support raid controller?

Just FYI, I always used  MaxBlast which was very helpful and much appreciated.

Note that I have a raid5 with 3 disks that I saved and restored several times using MaxBlast.

Recently I lost two disks of this raidset (In fact the 2nd was released by the controller of raidset (Bug), so I wanted to update my BIOS and firmware so ICH9.

I had reveive a new disk and recreate a raid5 volume.

Now since the bios update I can no longer load MaxBlast and I can no longer restore my data.

before update:
ASUS P5E3 motherboard, bios = 1201 (on ecan Bos 1.1.0.L67 =, = V7.5.0.1017 ICH9R)
after update:
ASUS P5E3 motherboard, bios = 1201 (on ecan Bos 1.1.0.L67 =, = V8.7.0.1007 ICH9R)

The "MaxBlast" error message is:
<<< Unable to load Linux Kernel. Press <ENTER> to reboot >>>

Is it possible to have a new version "MaxBlast" including the driver ICH9R Raid?

Thanks in advance for your support.

Best regards,

Olivier.

Re: MAXBLAST does not work with RAID.

Sorry (cut and past error) new bios from ASUS is 1503 (previous was 1201).
