1. This method will keep all data on the drive.
In windows, open a command prompt (right-click and Run as Administrator in Vista or Win7)
Start > Run > cmd
In the command prompt type
convert x: /fs:FAT32 /x
Substitute the x: with the letter of your drive that you wish to convert.
2. This method will destroy all data on the drive.
Alternatively you can open My Computer, right click the drive and select Format, select the file system from the drop down box.

I've tried both of those. In Command Prompt, it says "CONVERT is not available for NTFS drives."
Then I tried the second one, and it only gave me the option of NTFS and exFAT.

Im sure you fixed this but I thought Id post it for the next viewers. I also wanted to reformat my 500G FreAgent to Fat32 from NTFS. I also only got the DOSX option. but tried it and when I view the properties under explorer, it shows a fat32 format. Also, as I understand, the limitation of fat32 is/was 4g file sizes. I just made an image of a 36G harddrive and it did, in fact, divide the drive into 4G pieces.
Next: the reason I wanted to change it to Fat32 is so that the other players in my home would recognize the drive. I have a movie player in the car and wanted to watch the movies for the kids but it wont recognize the drive. It will see thumb drives - 16G , but errors on this drive. I also purchased a media player, and it also wont recognize the drive. It doesn't come up with errors (flashing etc) just doesn't see it. Sees all the thumb drives though ???
Anybody that could shed some lite. Thanks

I had this same problem. I am sure you have figured it out by now, but reply is more for people who are still searching. It took me two days to find a place to help me. When I found this article, I finally was able to change the partition. Good luck to those still hunting and I hope this helps you like it helped me.
