Ok, I'm a bit confused by your post...is this an internal or an external hard drive?
Saying it's a barracuda indicates an internal drive but saying a freeagent usb device indicates an external drive...
How exactly are you connecting the drive to your computer? Is it internally or through USB?
If a drive is showing the incorrect capacity, it's usually a faulty drive...you'll try the basic detection steps with different cables, ports, and computers. If it's not detected with the right capacity, it's bad...you can try to run seatools but I'd bet it would fail the tests.
As for the data, try different data recovery software...if it can't pull the data...you may need to try other methods of data recovery at that point...then look into possibly replacing the drive.

Ya, if you're still not having any luck at that point...sounds like a dead drive...sorry..

Check this out:
This seems to be a firmware bug that seagate sould inform its customers about.
There is a solution to this, though.
