I've had a Seagate Freeagent 500gb external hard drive for about a year now. Yesterday it seemed to just...stop working.

Everything is plugged in fine, the USB and the power supply.

It is no longer recognised on ANY of my computers, the orange light remains on, it makes a few clicking sounds for the first few minutes and the drive manager says no drive is attatched. I don't get any error messages or the computer saying it can't be recognised because it just doesn't even show up at all.

The drive manager at the bottom right toolbar is grey and when I hover over it it says "No drive connected".

I've unplugged, rebooted, plugged in. Tried shutting down, disconnecting the drive, booting back up then reattaching the drive.

I've tried it in the laptops main usb ports and in my Hub port. Nothing yet. :\

My 500gb freeAgent has done the very same thing. Did you get a fix for it.

this is what worked for me.

i switched out the plugin (to the outlet) with a newer plug in (from a different seagate external) and that stopped the clicking and it worked right away. 

so my issue was the power source.
