Backup Log

Hello
I just set up my Free Agent 500 GB Desktop external HD.
After I backed up for the first time, I went into my Backup Log and my Music files and as far as I can tell my music files were not backed up

The log says after the music titles: "Not Supported/ File Skipped (backup of hidden files and folders is not supported)

Can someone help me solve this problem

I have win vista premium

Thanks

Re: Backup Log

This is also my problem.  I can't seem to find the answer either.  Is there anyone that can assist with the back up log?  I was expecting to follow the directions and find it easy to use.  This does not solve my backup issues.  I want to know that my files are backed up properly.  I am using XP and the statement I am getting said that my files are not supported.  How can we get them supported or at least backed up on the Seagate?

Thanks

Re: Backup Log

It is my C:/User hidden files and folders that I have the errors on,  but when I open my FreeAgent backup in  computer on Vista it shows the user files as being backed up..But were they backed up with the errors?    I have to call support and see what they say.

Re: Backup Log

Use different software.  As stated in the FAQ, the Seagate does not require their software to work.
Freebyte... dumb, simple, free but will backup anything, any file, any folder.
Comodo  more options, fancier interface, timed backup.

Music files have "read only" album covers..  If they are copied to the external, they are still "read only".
If the software tried to copy it again.. it can't (giving you the error message) as it's can't replace a "read only" file.
So it may be there, just the date changed due to you playing that album and showing it's cover.
I get that problem on a few of my album covers.
Except I use the above named program and can figure it out easier.
Plus my backup program choice will backup my E-mail.  Try to make their software do that !

Re: Backup Log

I called support(not much help)all that was said was my C:/user files were not being backed up with no way to fix it...  I also see in the log that it did not back up Doc's, favorites etc.
I downloaded freebyte and the help manual

What I would like to know is:  I have windows vista prem. In my files and folder options in "My Computer" I have the option to hide or show hidden folders(I had  tried this both ways on the seagate backup and it make a difference.  Should all files be hidden or shown before backing up on freebyte or does it matter??

I have a Lacie $60.00 ex. hd. drive on my other computer with never a problem.  Not like the seagate..

Re: Backup Log

I read your answer and took your advice. I downloaded comodo and did a backup and used my freeagent desktop 500 in drive g as the destination then I went to the freeagent log and it was empty. The Comodo said the backup was completed successfully so what am I doing wrong? I can't get the feeagent to back up my document folder because it says the not supported hidden file thing and I am the administrator and logged on as such. Any idea's.

Re: Backup Log

I have this issues as well. Seems pretty silly to build a backup unit that wont backup the files that need to be backed up.

Re: Backup Log

Hows it going...I seem to be having similar issues but am not quite understanding how to fix them.

I recently loaded some new music on my mac.  I then updated some alum covers for the first time in a long time.  Now when I back-up my computer, all albums that I updated the covers for (old and new) wont back-up.  I'm really only worried about the new music as the old music is already backed I beleive.

MrButkus wrote about how the album cover is read only and thats why this is an issue.  That makes sense.  I am having trouble understanding how to fix the issue though.  Thank you kindly.

Re: Backup Log

Before I waste anybody's time, the issue just came to me.

It has nothing to do with the album covers--my hard drive was full becuase of prior versions. Pathetic, I know.

My apologies.
