The backup software needs some updating on the Free Agent 1TB Desk model and probably others.
First, there's the matter of all of the "unsupported" file types. If the file is there, back it up.
Second, skipping files that are currently locked. Note the full path of the file and come back when the rest of the backup is complete. If it is still locked, make a note in the log. It's not necessarily an error.
Third, when the user has the manager open during the backup, there should be a lot better information than just the current folder and file being backed up. A tree should be displayed and a status of the backup should be displayed at the bottom of the window.
Fourth, there should be a way to automatically change the folder name for the backup. For instance, on Monday the folder would be Backup_Mon; on Tuesday it would be Backup_Tue, and so on.
Fifth, incremental backups would be great. Full scheduling of a full backup once a week and then each successive day would back up only those files that had been modified that day.
Watching mine backup this morning I saw it stop incrementing the file count. But, it still said it was backing up my drives. When I could momentarily read the folder names, I could see that they were the same that I'd already seen backed up. What gives?
