OK, so a really basic question - obviously I'm new to this. Seems like I need to leave it plugged in all the time so it can run the scheduled backups - but I ask this question because the drive sure seems to be hot after it's been plugged in for a few hours.
So, is the 320 GB FreeAgent External Harddrive supposed to be left plugged into my laptop at all times, or should I disconnect it when it is not in use?

The drive will need to have power supplied to it all the time in order to use the backup feature. The drive has a default value incorporated into it which places the drive into a sleep mode after some period of inactivity (usually anywhere between 1 and 5 minutes), at which point the drive stops spinning and basically powers down until someone (or something) tries to access it again. I'm not sure why it's getting hot. Seems like it's not entering sleep mode for some reason. Check and make sure that no programs are continually accessing data from the drive, and check your backup schedule to make sure that your backup intervals aren't too close together. Usually once a day should be more than enough.
