Drive Manager Software

[ Edited ]
I just purchased a FreeAgent Desktop Hard Drive and a FreeAgent Go Hard Drive. I am using SeaGate's Drive Manager Software for both hard drives. The software was installed without any problem, and the software properly identifies each drive. However, when I select a drive in order to create a backup plan, it works fine for the first drive that I select, but when I select the second drive in order to create a separate backup plan for it, whatever backup settings I choose for the second drive automatically transfers to the first drive, as well.

In other words, for Drive G (FreeAgent Desktop), I chose the simple backup option (which backs up "My Documents" daily at 10 PM). For Drive H (FreeAgent Go), I chose the custom backup option. When I went back to take a peek at my Drive G backup settings, they had been changed from "Simple Backup" to the same "Custom Backup" that I chose for Drive H. Also, if I turn off "Scheduled Backup" for one drive, it automatically turns it off for the other drive. Finally, when I back up either drive, the backup goes without a hitch, yet Drive Manager will show that the last backup failed even though it didn't fail. I checked to see if there is an update to the software, but, apparently, I have the current version.

This has got to be the sorriest excuse for software that I've ever seen. After all the money I spent on the two drives, the notion that I should have to go out and purchase backup software that works properly is ludicrous. Someone at SeaGate needs to work on fixing their buggy software!

Re: Drive Manager Software

I have had other problems with this software. It doesn't appear to be very robust or flexible.

I use microsoft SyncToy. It hasn't failed me yet. It also has more options than just backup. It can synchronize the different computers that you may have accessing the same drive.

Re: Drive Manager Software

Tis true.   The drive is just an external USB drive.  Any software would work.   Their externals have a hard code in the USB controller to show it's a Maxtor/Segate and it allows you to run their limited software.

There are other free software backup programs available.

Re: Drive Manager Software Multiple History Folders

Does anyone know why my FreeAgent Drive Manager Software creates those multiple History folders? It's seems to be creating multiple back-up folders using all my ext HDD space. I need some advice. Can someone help me?

Thanks

Re: Drive Manager Software

I'm having this same issue, and for the life of me, I can't find Seagate's Drive manager software.  I can find the SeaTools, but that doesn't seem to have any ability to manage the drive settings.

Do you know where I can get a copy of the drive manager software?

Thanks.

Re: Drive Manager Software

Regarding the location of the Software Manager download, I found it here:

http://tinyurl.com/ylhdopo

(I found this by going to the menu to the left, selecting Support --> Downloads --> FreeAgent Drives --> Classic FreeAgent External Hard Drive.)
