Errors in my Backup Log

Is it normal to get pages and pages of errors in the backup log?

Here is a small sampling of what I see:

Skipped         C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\.zreglib                       Not Supported/File skipped (backup of operating system files and folders ( those that have both system and hidden attributes) is not supported)
ERROR  >>>      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\00000082\00000105\00000349\cltLMS1.dat        Open or locked file skipped
ERROR  >>>      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\00000082\00000105\00000349\cltLMS2.dat        Open or locked file skipped
ERROR  >>>      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\Norton\Common Client\_lck\_AVPAPP_{BB639333-810A-4bf8-85F5-C537857F55FC}0        Open or locked file skipped

Is there anyway to clean this up or do I just live with this?

Thank you - see my sigmature for model number of drive.

Re: Errors in my Backup Log

Hello Inspector.

Yes, thats quite normal from the looks of it.

The file cltLMS1.dat is a keylogger/rootkit.

The program is giving that error because the file is locked.

It is locked because norton antivirus detected it, and added it to quarantine, and is preventing any program/anyone from accessing - hence it cannot affect your system.

Nb - seagate's util would also give that error if the file was in use by windows.

If you really want to copy over malware, there are means to unlock the file XD.

But I doubt you will. ^_^

(the other case would be, that the virus overtook your system, and pretended to be in a norton child folder!) but I doubt that lol.

To confirm everything - open norton, go into its quarantine area, and look for that file name.

A Pentium III, 256MB RAM and 10GB HDD are needed to run Windows XP.
The power of 3 C64 was needed to fly to SPACE.

And its called WINDOWS!

Re: Errors in my Backup Log

Thank you Grim0x for your reply.  The file "cltLMS1.dat" is only one of thousands in my log.  As I said I get pages and pages in my log.  I just now copied the log and pasted it into Word to find there is 139 pages of errors.

Guess I will just let it be and not worry with it.

Thanks again.

Re: Errors in my Backup Log

I'm having the same problem, thousands of skipped files and error codes that cause me to get an alert of "back up failed!"  This has only started within the past week and I've been using my Seagate external for almost a year with no issues until now.  Why now??? Thx for any help!

Re: Errors in my Backup Log

[ Edited ]

hello  fiona and earthart.

Many things can cause the sort of errors you are getting.

earthart, you need to include a log like fiona did, okay?

Fiona:

According to my research:

"Microsoft's developers, in their infinite wisdom and generosity, created this folder and these files on your system to allow you to back out of an upgrade to Office 2000. In the event that you experience problems with your installation, these files allow you to uninstall Office 2000 and go back to your previous version of Office."

It also seems they apply generally to .msi installations.

So, what the backup utility is telling you - is that it is simply designed not to back up these files, as they are not essential.

So - dont worry about it ^_~
