I have a 500 GB Seagate that I have scheduled to back-up two times a week. Even though nothing new has been added to my hard drive, the space on the seagate keeps decreasing. I am curious why this keeps happening, and is there anything I can do to correct it?
Thanks

If you are making changes to any files the existing file will be in the backup and the old file is move under history. Email folders can be large. Check under the drives history to see what files are being updated. Older files can be deleted from the backup drive.
I would recommend that you review the files and folders under the Seagate Backup folder and see if you are backing up files that you don't need or if some important files are missing. Then you can customize the backup.

Thanks,
But I checked the backup history, and the log says skipped for the last backup for everything on the hard drive. I started out with approximately 480 gigs on the drive and my hard drive only uses 50 gigs and yet I am down to 387 remaining gigs. Since I am not real computer savy, it is a mystery to me.

You need to check the actual files on the drive not the Backup log.
Open Windows Explorer and and browse to the following location E:\Seagate Backup\Your_computer_name\ . "E" = drive letter of the Seagate drive. You should have a "C" folder and a "History" folder at this location. The "C" folder contains the latest backup and the "History" folder contains "levels" that contain the "old copies" of files that have changed in new backups. Level 2 contains files change in the last backup. Level9 the oldest changes files. You should delete folders 9,8,7,6,5,.. in that order until your free space is about 100Gb.
You can check the size of a folder by right clicking and choosing properties.
You may want to update your Seagate manager to see if this will fix the problem. In Seagate Manager on the My Drive icon choose Setting on the bottom, then choose Check for software Upgrade, then -check now.
