Free Agent Deskop 1TB spinning, no light, not recognized,

I used to get Windows Delayed Write Error and I used to lose a lot of data this way. Last week, I connected to the same laptop with ubuntu and it gets a warning that the drive has too many bad sectors and has major health issue. I downloaded seatool and tried short test and long test. They both fail in about 20 sec. I tried to get an external hard drive from my friend to back up the data but just before I get the drive, my computer would not even recognize the drive at all. Seagate manager didn't recognize either. I have changed different USB cable, port and even different computers to detect the drive but with no success. Whenever i plugged in, the drive is spinning but there is no light nor no detection by the computer.

I have browsed on internet and found out that most of the other customers are having issue with 1TB hard drive and it is due to the issue with firmware and that Seagate has made a promise to recover the data at no cost due to this issue. Is that true? I don't want to open the enclosure because I would like to claim the warranty from Seagate for replacement. However, before i do that, could you guys help me with the issue so that I can possibly save my data.

It's Free Agent Desktop 1TB, P/N 9ZCAG-500  silver.  Please let me know if you need any additional information i can provide.

Thanks,

LJ

Re: Free Agent Deskop 1TB spinning, no light, not recognized,

hi,

following this http://www.gotbackdata.com/article-recognize.html and check it by yourself. you should contact seagate ask for free data recovery. but i don't think they will provide for your case.

Re: Free Agent Deskop 1TB spinning, no light, not recognized,

Your bad sectors are not related to the well publicised 7200.11 firmware bug.

See the following technical bulletin:
