I have a 500 gig Free Agent Pro. I did a reformat and reinstall of Windows XP MCE. When I tried to reinstall the Seagate drive it did not give me the option of reinstalling the software. It now shows up in my computer as drive E and displays folders i.e. program files etc but it will not run any of these. None of the drive tools, backup software or anything else is displayed. I have tried dragging and dropping files but these do not function. The option to reinstall the software thru Autoplay does not exsist. Is there a solution? OR should I take it outside and use it for target practice. I have 84 gigs of backups that I cannot find nor access.

Your not going to be able to "restore" an application from this type of backup. In order to get the application on your PC you will need to install the application. After the application has been installed, you can access the data that was backed up on your drive using the application. 

For example.... If you backed up  songs from itunes, you would need to install itunes from their web site before you will be able to play the songs that are on the drive. Or, if you backed up word documents, you will need to install Word from a CD or Internet prior to being able to access the Word documents on the drive.
