I've started to suffer the infamous sleep issues with the FreeAgent Desk. The problems where, the disk goes to sleep, causes programmes to hang, and does not reappear to OS X until the drive has been turned off at the socket, and then back on. This is the second drive this has occurred to me on.
In brief, I have already performed these tasks:
As I've already said, this is the second drive I've had this issue with. I was told, again, that if these solutions do not fix the issue, then it is a problem with the hard drive itself, it is faulty, and not an issue with the firmware. But I'm struggling to believe this is merely a hardware problem. These downloads are supposed to fix the problem, and I was told that this is a very rare problem. That rare that I receive two drives with exactly the same problem? Perhaps if I got two out of a bad batch... but surely the supplier would have accounted for that?
I don't mean to point fingers, I just find this rather unacceptable and some what unbelievable.
Basically, I was wondering if there has been a solution found which does not involve me returning the drive? I've read a lot of posts which all seem to offer the solutions above, and nothing more. No return posts saying things work, only that they didn't.
If there is no solution, I will be returning the drive, and asking for a refund. I can't say I'll be buying a seagate drive again, especially after being put off from buying the Barracuda from the problems I read with people having on this, and other forums.
I'm running OS X 10.5.7, and using the FreeAgent with Firewire 800.
Thanks for your replies.

Hi, I made my post before I realised our problems may be similar. For me the hanging started only since 10.5.7. I'm going to investigate rolling the firewire drivers back to the version in 10.5.6 if they have been updated causing the problem. Here it is:

I the same issues with Desk for Mac :-(
Can you point me to the Seagate Sleep Override Utility for the FreeAgent Go just to give it a try...?
I can't seem to find it.
Thanks in advance!
