I just bought a FreeAgent GO 500MB from Fry's (PN 9TC2AH-500). When I plugged it into my USB port it burned out my PC USB ports. How do I get a replacement PC? I have a 2 ear old Compaq that now doesnt work because of the Seagate drive. Should I take the drive back to Fry's or keep it to get a new pc from Seagate. My keyboard on the pc doesnt work anymore either. It boots but I cant do anything.
What should i do? Any help?

I was working on a computer for a friend once who told me that he had the same thing happen on a laptop once. That same day when I started to backup his Internal HD using a 3-Way IDE, SATA 3.5" and 2.5" USB adaptor on My computer. I shorted the motherboard in my laptop. I assume that my failure to disconnect the External power to the adaptor back feed into the USB port. The HD and Adaptor were both OK. The computer was under warranty and repaired (It also took out the CD Player).
In a company of several hundred I often hear of a "USB port of Death". Basically anything that is plugged into this USB port will lock the computer. The only remedy is to remove the battery and and reinstall it. I would take the drive back to Fry's and replace it or have them short out their PC. You could power the drive from an external USB power Supply to see if it spins. If not get a replacement.

The problem was resolved.
It turns out I had a couple PS2 keyboard adapter plugs in my desk. I was able to get my mouse and keyboard back by using the adapters to convert USB to PS2. Now I have a keyboard and mouse.
I bought a new USB 2.0 board from Fry's and was able to use my FreeAgent Go. It all turned out for the best since my computer was not USB 2.0. The new board is probably much much faster anyhow. I like speed.
Thanks for everyones suggestions. I dont need a new pc. YEA!
