Freeagent Desktop - Firmware upgrade with a non-original drive

I purchased a Free Agent 500gb external drive. After a little over a year the original drive started clicking and then became completely unresponsive. Windows no longer detected the drive, so I ordered a new 500GB drive through Newegg and installed it in my enclosure.

The original drive that came in the enclosure was a 7200.10. The new drive is a 7200.11.

I was wondering first of all, how can i determine the firmware revision that is in use? Drive detect is showing 100D but I am not sure if that is for the controler in the enclosure or for the drive.

Secondly, what can I do to upgrade if necessary?

Thanks in advance

p.s. If anyone has any tips on how i could recover any data from the old drive i would greatly appreciate it. Hopes aren't too high but I guess there is always a chance. For a few days after it started clicking I was able to transfer a few things off of it but it would always end up crashing again and the only way to get it to show up in device manager was to leave it unplugged for awhile and then re-attach untill it finally gave up.
