How to restore backup to new computer?

I just bought a new computer after the last one died.  Now I want to restore the files that are backed up on the Free Agent HD to the new computer.  I am sure it is pretty simple but I have never done this before.

Thanks in advance your your help.

Re: How to restore backup to new computer?

You just want to drag and drop the files that you want to restore from the backup drive to the new drive, wherever you want the data to go.

Re: How to restore backup to new computer?

How do you restore to your computer after reinstalling the OS? I would not like to have to drag and drop every file to its correct location. I have Vista and the computer has the same name as before the reinstall but the freeagent puts a (1) after my co mputer name and treats it like a new computer.

Re: How to restore backup to new computer?

I have the same problem with my laptop hard drive failing. After replacing it, I need to easily move the latest backed up files from my FreeAgent backup drive to my laptop. There are 10 history folders, which are difficult to sift through. How can I just find the latest files on the backup drive so I may restore them quickly?

jonny2nite:

You can't restore from a new OS.  You have to drag and drop and/or copy and paste.
