1) Tried all the different USB ports on the computer?
2) What if you erase the drive with DiscWizard, and then try again to format it in Disk Management?

I have the same problem with my Freeagent GO. I know it's the drive because I have been using it on 2 different computers and it happens on both. My laptop runs Vista 64 bit and my desktop runs XP Pro. It was working this morning on the desktop. I got an I/O error at one point when trying to open up a folder. When I safely removed it from the desktop and moved it to the laptop, it completely froze. When I try to access "My Computer", everything stops working and everything on the desktop disappears. After about 5 minutes, I was able to safely remove it. I moved it back to the desktop and the same thing happened with the computer freezing and desktop disappearing.
I cannot reformat this drive and lose what I have on it. Any help would be appreciated.

I've tried all the USB ports on 2 different computers and also tried different USB cables.
I can't erase the drive. I need the data.
My disk did finally show up, but only after a long time waiting and only as a local disk with nothing on it.
