Previous external hard drive software preventing recognition of new Free Agent?

When I installed my new 750GB drive tonight, I forgot to uninstall my previous (Simpletech 250) and only used the "safely remove hardware" tab. I unplugged, unhooked one and plugged in the other.  When I turned my machine on, it didn't recognize anything new, as the new drive is in the same place.

Next, I uninstalled the back up software for the previous drive and rebooted, but it still seems invisible.  Neither is there a new desktop icon.  Could the software be the same, by any remote chance? Simpletech used ArcSoft.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

that is pretty strange.

windows might be confused - change the new drive's drive letter in disk management and that could be the fix right there

Re: Previous external hard drive software preventing recognition of new Free Agent?

Thanks for your reply, Melonade.  The linked words brought me back to this thread though.  I'll try to rename the drive and see if that helps.

I do have it installed.  When I first plugged in the Free Agent, I copied everything on it onto my hard drive, as per the instructions, so I clicked launch.exe to at least install the drive.  I now have an icon on the right side of the system tray, but some of the features don't work, such as a mouse hover over the icon doesn't provide any information.  I'm wondering if I should proceed as if everything were perfect or unhook it, hook up my old external and uninstall it, then reinstall the Free Agent.  I don't want to be half-way into using it and discover left over bugs.  Since I haven't transferred anything to it yet, it would be relatively painless at this point.

If I can smooth everything out without having to physically get down in tight spaces and do all that wire work, I'd rather.
