I've got a Seagate 1 TB Freeagent Go drive that I used as a backup drive on my former Windows PC which is no longer readable on either my Windows PC or Mac Book Pro. The drive lights up fine from USB power. I am trying to scan the drive to see if any data is salvageable. The scan ran for almost twenty four hours with sectors being counted off incrementally but the digital display of the sectors seems to hang on the second square. The first square of the map lights up but the second square just flashes on and off. Wondering if the drive is in fact being scanned as indicated by the sector readout changing or if the scan is impossible given the flashing digital sector square? Seagate wants over $600 to try data recovery but that isn't going to happen. Is it possible to remove the drive from the case and attach a USB data transfer cable directly to the drive. I did that with an old hard drive from my windows PC and it worked great. Seagate's File Recovery software gives me the option of manually setting the sector where I want to start the scan. Would this option get the scan working correctly?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Mark

You can remove the drive and hope, you can also try another mini usb cable and also different ports.
Normally the lights flash quickly in a pulse if there is something wrong, long gentle pulse if it's ok.

I managed to remove the drive from the case and the SATA cable I have plugs in to the drive no problem. Still having troubes reading the drive though. It freezes up my windows 7 PC about 50% of the time but I at least have a scan running now using MiniTool Power Data Recovery. Time will tell whether or not I'll be successful recovering any data. My own fault really...complacency I guess....oh well. Lesson learned.
Thanks

On edit.....forgot to mention the USB power light is a steady light when plugged in just as it has always been.

Once I came across a situation as such when my mac was showing prohibitory sign or say a broken folder icon, often referred to as kernel panic. On finding the cause behind the same I found that the file system of Mac was corrupt and as nothing worked at that time, so I finally had to format my hard drive. Later on I tried the mac drive utility & that worked wonders for me as it found all my files from the hard drive & selecting those I was able to restore it back on Mac.

Did you try Disk Drill? It suppose to work nicely, though I couldn't test it so far, becasue I didn't run into trouble. Before all my crashes happened so I couldn't recover anything, head crash....
