We had a short power outage in the neighbourhood here today (approx 10-15 minutes long), and since then I cannot locate my FreeAgent Desktop 500Gb HDD via Windows Vista.
I have tried everything I could find on the support boards (disconnecting and reconnecting power and USB to the HDD after rebooting the PC, trying different USB ports, etc) all to no avail. The PC will not recognise the drive is connected in either Windows Explorer or through the Computer Manager in Admin Tools.
Unfortunately I don't have another computer that i can try to connect the HDD to so as to test if it is recognised by other PCs.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions I could try to get the system to recognise the HDD again?

Sorry, I should have made it clearer, but when I said I'd tried everything I could find on the Seagate Support boards, that included the Troubleshooting guide you directed me to.
Also, I have tested all the USB ports by plugging in another device (iPord) and the PC registered the device in all ports (back and front), but still will not detect the external drive when I plug it in.

Sorry, I should have read the bit where you said you had tried everything.
If it doesn't even show up in Disk Management and the Seagate Data recovery software doesn't work then I don't know what else you can do.
