Using Mac OS X 10.7.4 Disc Utility recognises but can not repair

I have a FreeAgent Go external portable hard drive.

My TV has stopped recognising it and my Mac will not open it, it will only show up in Disc utility.  The repair options will not work and when I try to erase it comes up with and error message...

Disk Erase failed with the error:

Unable to write to the last block of the device.

Please help it is school holidays and my kids movies are all on this hardrive I will go nuts if I actually have to entertain them :smileyhappy:

Sorry to hear that you aren't able to get to the movies on your external drive any longer.

The error code it's generating usually indicates that a drive is defective. Do you have these movies stored somewhere else in addition to the FreeAgent Go drive?

If so, you can try reformatting the drive to see if it will work. Be sure to also partition the drive, don't just format it.

You'll need to exchange the hard drive in this case, since that's an indicator that it's defective. You can register it for an RMA here:
