So I got a freeAgent Desk 1.5TB external for christmas and its been making the moderately loud clicking noise that most people have been having problems with. Everyone says that its "the click of death" and it means definite failure...but...mines been clicking quite often and it still works perfectly, I've had no read/write errors or problems with it booting up. So i guess my question is, even though its working perfectly, should I still return it for a new one? and does the clicking im experiencing mean a gauranteed failure?

Just do a Google search for "Seagate 1.5tb external hard drive," or what I typed in which was, "Seagate TB external hard drive click of death" and marvel at all of the hits showing users who are experiencing that "clicking noise" and the drives that are no longer functioning. If I were you, I would be backing up the data on that drive to another drive as quickly as I could. In fact, I would say you were lucky that your drive is still functioning. Once mine starts in with the clicking, it is no longer accessible. So, I guess that means I have lost over 800 gigs of data, since I can't access the drive long enough to get the data off of it.
I hope that the reason no one has responded to your issue is because it is New Years Eve because there also seems to be some question as to the customer support being provided by this company. What I want to know is will this company be recalling these drives or helping users to get their important data off the drives free of charge? How nice that this company has a data recovery service. Sounds like they planned the poor performance of these drives just so they can make money on data recovery. These drives are on sale all over the place, so rather than recall them, it seems like they're trying to pawn them off for cheap. The failure of the drives seems to be inevitable, but for some it happens right away. In my case, I have had mine for about a year, and the click of death occurred two days ago. Good luck.

Hi, i had a brand new external drive 1.5TB Seagate and the unit since I bought it make that crazy click like start end. At first I thought that was normal but I start worry about it because the sponsor gave me only a month warranty. Its the first time that I use one of this drives so i'm not sure what to do; it's normal or it's a big problem ? it's going to cause a serious failure?
I hope somebody give an advice!
