folders turned into .exe file in external hard drive?

i have a 1tb extenal hard seagate freagent(desk) drive which i gave it to my friend..on return i find that all my folders have turned into .exe files....then i clicked the .exe  file and entered in it and cut and pasted two file within it...now all the .exe files have dissapeared......

ps:all my files are inside it stilll....and .avi files which were not in a folders are still there as it is

If anyone has found out a solution to this, please post it here..

 

I am also facing a similar issue. my folders on the root location are all turned to EXEs. This had happened after I accidently put one of my Pen drives to wash and it got wet. After letting it dry for days, i tried putting that back on my comp to see if i can still access it.. i first saw this thing happening on that drive, which then started happening on  my external HDD as well.. 

 

This only happened to my folders in root, inside every thing is perfect.
